SPX Corporation Chosen to Supply Emissions Testing Systems for ARCO

    MUSKEGON, Mich., Nov. 3 -- SPX Corporation today
announced an agreement with Atlantic Richfield Company ,
Los Angeles, California, to provide ARCO with emissions testing equipment for
the California Smog Check II program.
    Under terms of this agreement, SPX will supply all the emissions testing
systems for ARCO SMOGPROS service locations throughout California.  The
systems will be operational by December 1997.
    Commenting on the agreement, Thomas J. Riordan, President, SPX Aftermarket
Tool and Equipment Group said, "ARCO's selection of SPX for emissions testing
equipment clearly aligns two industry leaders in support of the state-mandated
emissions program in California.  This decision also assures that Californians
will have access to the most advanced equipment in the marketplace to test and
repair their automobiles."
