BMW Reports Strong September Sales; Nine Month Total Highest in Company's History
WOODCLIFF LAKE, N.J., Oct. 2 -- BMW of North America, Inc.
reported record retail sales of 10,187 automobiles in September and
year-to-date sales of 93,702. BMW ended the first nine months of 1997 with
U.S. sales that are 17 percent higher than the same period a year ago, when
BMW reported year-to-date sales of 80,149.
Demand for all BMW models contributed to the strong sales for the month.
Particularly noteworthy were BMW's 7 Series sales, up 15 percent last month
over the same month a year ago.
Also worth noting: BMW ended the first three quarters with year-to-date
sales of 6,483 high performance M3 models, 71 percent more than were sold last
calendar year (3,799).
BMW of North America, Inc. and Land Rover North America, Inc. are members
of the BMW Group. Consolidated U.S. September sales for the two companies
were 12,350 units (BMW: 10,187; Land Rover: 2,163), a 7 percent increase over
last year. Consolidated year-to-date sales were 111,947 vehicles
(BMW: 93,702; Land Rover: 18,245), a 16 percent increase over last year.
