Land Rover North America Powers Past 100,000 Retail Sales

                 World-renowned SUVs fill a distinctive niche

    LANHAM, Md., Sept. 24 -- Land Rover North America, Inc.,
importer and distributor of the British-built Range Rover, Land Rover
Discovery and Land Rover Defender 90, today retailed its 100,000th vehicle
since availability in the U.S. began on March 16, 1987.  The vehicle, an Epsom
Green 1997 Discovery SE7, was purchased from Land Rover North Dade in Miami,
Florida, on September 23.
    Charles R. Hughes, president, LRNA, said, "This is an important milestone
in our ten-year history and something we have all worked hard to achieve.
LRNA has never sought large sales numbers or mass-market status.  We have
concentrated instead on providing the finest sport utility vehicles available
today.  On the other hand, reaching 100,000 sales is a real thrill and reason
for everyone associated with Land Rover to be proud."
    To celebrate this milestone, LRNA will be awarding customer number 100,000
a unique prize: all routine maintenance and warranty work on the new Discovery
will be covered by LRNA for the first 100,000 miles.  The winner will be
notified, of the prize in a letter sent by Hughes.
    In the coming months, there will be additional reasons for LRNA to
celebrate.  April 30, 1998, will mark the 50th Anniversary of U.K.-based Land
Rover Ltd.  Multiple events and commemoratives are being scheduled to maintain
the momentum of a yearlong celebration, and a dedicated Web site will be
available later this year for the vast number of aficionados around the globe.
    Models currently available through LRNA are the gold-standard Range Rover
4.0 SE and 4.6 HSE, the family-friendly Discovery and the Defender 90, known
