The largest gatherings of their kind each year, the ITS America annual meetings bring together industry executives, federal, state and local government officials, consultants, research scientists, and engineers who focus on the use of the latest communications, computer, and electronic technologies to improve surface transportation. More than 100 technical exhibits will demonstrate ITS products and services currently in use and available for deployment. More than 70 technical sessions will offer the latest in research results, technical innovations, and market developments. Participants may choose among 12 tours of ITS operational sites, including the Ambassador Bridge International Border Crossing, the Detroit People Mover Control Facility, Ford Scientific Research Laboratories, the Oakland County Traffic Operations Center, and others. This is the first-ever ITS America Annual Meeting to be held in Detroit. In a letter to participants, Governor John Engler noted that Michigan is "eager to showcase the progress of Michigan's Intelligent Transportation Systems operations."
