July Gas Prices Drop at Mid-Summer Mark, Says AAA

SAN FRANCISCO, July 22 -- Retail gas prices in northern
California dropped slightly, the American Automobile Association (AAA)
reported Tuesday.
Self-serve unleaded averages $1.34 a gallon in northern California, down
six cents from AAA's June 23 Fuel Gauge Survey.
"Gasoline production continues at high levels in the Western region, which
is contributing to the summer down-turn of prices," said AAA's northern
California spokesman Ron Kennedy. "In addition, California's phase II
reformulated gasoline production is very abundant," Kennedy continued.
The average for self-serve unleaded has dropped three to seven cents in
northern California. In Monterey, the average has dropped seven cents to
$1.37. San Jose and San Francisco's averages fell five cents to $1.36 and
$1.41. Sacramento and Santa Rosa's averages also dipped five cents to $1.27
and $1.31, a gallon. San Rafael's average tumbled four cents to $1.39.
Hayward's average also fell four cents to $1.38. The Lake Tahoe average is
down three cents to $1.35, Oakland's average has dipped two cents to $1.35,
The Santa Cruz average has remained at $1.41.
San Mateo's average, however, is up one cent to $1.40. (See accompanying
chart for detailed price changes.) The regional averages for self-serve
unleaded in northern California are 15 to 20 cents lower this July, compared
to last year at this time.
The national average for self-serve unleaded gasoline is $1.23, down four
cents from a year ago.
In Nevada, the average for self-serve unleaded rose one cent to $1.32.
The Las Vegas average fell six cents to $1.25. Reno's average dropped five
cents to $1.39.
Utah's average for self-serve regular unleaded fell two cents to $1.24 a
