Ford Announces Safety Recall

5 February 1997

Ford Announced Vehicle Campaign

DETROIT, Feb. 5 -- Owners of certain 1995 Mercury Villager
vehicles are being notified of a safety recall involving the rear taillamp
sockets.
On some of these vehicles, the rear combination brake and taillamp sockets
may expand to the point that the metal sleeve could be pushed out of the
surrounding plastic socket housing. If this were to occur, it could result in
a loss of electrical continuity between the bulb and the electrical contact
plate and cause an intermittent or inoperable rear taillamp.
Approximately 40,134 Villagers are involved in this action, of which 2,140
are located in Canada.
Owners will be notified by Ford Motor Company via first-class
mail to return their vehicles to dealers for replacement of both rear taillamp
socket assemblies at no charge.
