IMPCO Announces Deal to Outfit 1997 GM Trucks with Natural Gas

5 February 1997

General Motors Gives IMPCO Green Light to Support Production of its 1997 Natural Gas Pickup Trucks

SEATTLE, Feb. 5 -- IMPCO Technologies, Inc., a wholly owned
subsidiary of AirSensors, Inc. (Nasdaq: ARSN, ARSNW), announced today that
General Motors will accept orders for its bi-fuel natural gas
(CNG)/gasoline Chevrolet C-2500 and GMC Sierra full-size pickup trucks.
Production and installation of systems for the trucks will be done under the
auspices of IMPCO. The trucks will be available for delivery at participating
dealers in Spring 1997. The CNG fuel systems used in the trucks were
developed by IMPCO for General Motors under an exclusive agreement.
Performance of the trucks' fuel system is comparable to gasoline in all
respects.
    The full-size Chevrolet and full-size GMC pickup use a Vortec 5700 V8
engine specially modified to be compatible with gaseous fuel, and carry a full
GM three-year/36,000 mile, Bumper-to-Bumper Plus, no deductible warranty.
These trucks will be certified to meet California low emission vehicle (LEV)
standards on natural gas and provide both operational and environmental
advantages including emission reduction and lower fuel costs.
GM selected IMPCO after a worldwide evaluation of alternative fuel
industry and awarded IMPCO its initial contract in 1993 to develop and produce
gaseous fuel management systems for GM vehicles. The contract was renewed
again in 1995. Both GM and IMPCO engineers have worked closely the last 3 1/2
years in developing, testing, and validating the fuel systems in strict
compliance with GM specifications.
"These trucks represent the latest in bi-fuel natural gas vehicles and
support GM's strategy to develop a portfolio of high technology, market
driven, alternative fuel vehicles. IMPCO's technical expertise and support
have been instrumental in getting our natural gas vehicle program up and
running," stated Richard A. Moreau, Program Manager, Alternative Fuels for GM.
Robert M. Stemmler, President and CEO of Air-Sensors/IMPCO stated, "Going
to production with GM on this natural gas vehicle program is a major milestone
in IMPCO's 39 year history. Our engineering staff has worked very hard with
the GM technical staff in taking this program from development to the upcoming
production stage. We anticipate fleet operators will take full advantage of
these GM vehicles to meet the alternative fuel vehicle mandates in compliance
with the Energy Policy Act."
IMPCO is a world leader in the alternative fuel industry, manufacturing a
vast array of products that enable engines of almost every size and purpose to
run on, clean fuel -- fuels that are more efficient, less polluting and
extremely cost-effective.
With North American facilities in California and Iowa and international
operations in Australia and Europe, IMPCO has, in more than 39 years, grown
into a company that is playing a key role in the world's transition to a clean
air future through the use of gaseous fuels. IMPCO's components can be used
with all clean burning gaseous fuels -- serving global markets for motor
vehicles, forklifts and small portable to large stationary engines with low
emission applications.
