Subaru Legacy Outback Repeat Winner of MotorWeek TV Drivers' Choice Award Competition

CHERRY HILL, N.J., Feb. 5 -- The popularity and overwhelming
success of the Subaru Legacy Outback, the world's first sport utility wagon,
has continued to keep this American built vehicle in the forefront of today's
automotive news.
For the third consecutive year Subaru has won the Drivers' Choice Award
for the best station wagon by MotorWeek TV, public television's nationally
syndicated automotive magazine. For the 1997 awards, which are being
announced by MotorWeek today, the Legacy Outback is the only repeat winner in
any category. The Outback, a 5-passenger sport utility wagon, has not only
surpassed all company sales expectations by a wide margin, it has also motored
the media through blinding blizzards, and put smiles on the faces of new as
well as prior Subaru owners. These owners, previously driving traditional
wagons, sedans and sport utility vehicles are being lured from both the
American and import market.
The MotorWeek Drivers' Choice Award is being presented to Subaru at the
89th Annual Chicago Auto Show. The annual MotorWeek Drivers' Choice Award is
based on overall look and design, comfort, road handling and safety features.
Show host John Davis and the entire MotorWeek staff road tested more than 150
vehicles and chose the best in fifteen categories. "The Drivers' Choice
winners represent the very finest in the automotive industry," said Davis.
"It's extremely gratifying to receive this recognition," said George
Muller, president and chief operating officer of Subaru of America, Inc. "As
the best selling station wagon in the US, we're now successfully extending our
areas of expertise -- wagons and all-wheel drive -- and becoming leaders in
new and emerging segments like hybrid utility vehicles."
The Subaru Legacy Outback can be found along with the Subaru Impreza, SVX
and the rest of the Legacy line at over 630 Subaru dealers nationwide.
