Scott Goodyear

Scott Goodyear was born December 20, 1959, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He ran his first race in a Formula Ford, at Mosport Park in 1980. In 1986, he seized his first title, the North American Formula Atlantic Championship, with five wins in nine events. He was also the Canadian Race Drivers Association's Driver of the Year in 1986.

Goodyear drove his first Indy Car race in June 1987, at Meadowlands. He competed in his first full season in the PPG Cup in 1990, finishing 13th in point standings. At the Indy "500" that year, he finished tenth, becoming the second best rookie (to Eddie Cheever). From 1990 through 1994, Goodyear ran a full circuit in the PPG Cup, consistently scoring in the top 15 in series point standings. His best season on the circuit came in 1992. He chased Al Unser to the finish line at the Indy "500," missing the victory by just .043 seconds-the closest margin in Speedway history. His first Indy Car victory came that year in the Marlboro 500, at Michigan. He also posted a third at new Hampshire, and a fourth at Nazareth, finishing the series in fifth place. In his first IRL race in the 1996/1997 season, Goodyear started sixth and finished third in Orlando.
