Born in Medellin, Colombia, Robert Guerro has been competing in the PPG Cup since 1984. He ran all 16 events his first year, earning Won Vandervell Rookie of the Year honors for his outstanding performance. He first drove down victory lane at Phoenix in 1987 and again at Mid-Ohio later in the year. He finished the season fourth (career-best) in series point standings. Guerrero's performance in the Indy Car Series was strong and consistent. In the eight full seasons he ran, he finished in the top-20 in point standings. So far, he has a fifth place finish at the Indy 200 at Walt Disney World and a fourth place finish at Las Vegas on his IRL ledger.

Guerrero's performance in the Indy "500" has been incredible. When he debuted in 1984, he finished runner-up, behind Rick Mears. It was the best finish by a rookie since Graham Hill won in 1966. His streak of near wins has continued for several years: 3rd in 1985, 4th in 1986, 2nd in 1987, a pole in 1992, and a 5th place finish in 1996.

Born November 16, 1958, Guerrero began racing when he was 12 years old. He won two national kart championships in Columbia during his five years of competing. In 1977, he attended the Jim Russell Driving School in England. A year later, he was one of the top Formula Ford drivers in England, winning eight races and finishing fifth in British F-Ford Series point standings. He moved up to Formula 3 Series, winning three races and second in championship points.
