Billy Roe was born May 7, 1957, in Indianapolis, Indiana. Before he started his professional racing career, he held a USAC chief mechanic's license for four years. He started his own racing career in go-karts and quickly broadened his horizons into many other types of vehicles, including: go-karts, stock cars, midgets, super modifieds, sprint cars, Formula Fords, Continentals, Atlantic, Can-Am cars, turbine car, and a piston car and electric Indy Car. He set a world record driving the electric powered Indianapolis car at 107 mph in Phoenix. Since 1991, Roe has run in a handful of Atlantic events. His scored his career-best finish of third, in New Hampshire in 1993 and Nazareth in 1994. In 1996, he passed the USAC driver's test at Phoenix.
