PICKERINGTON, Ohio -- The 2000 American Motorcyclist Association Amateur Ice Racing National Championships will be held Jan. 29-30 at Wisconsin's Eagle River Derby Track, one of the finest oval-track ice racing facilities in the world, AMA Sports has announced.

Located in the small resort town of Eagle River in far northern Wisconsin, the track is best known for annually hosting the Valvoline World Championship Snowmobile Derby presented by CarQuest Auto Parts. The half-mile ice oval ranges in width from 60 to 80 feet. Corners one and two are tighter than three and four, creating an ever-changing challenge to the racers. With the AMA championships, the facility will host motorcycle racing for the first time.

While specific event details are being worked out, more than 25 classes of competition will pit racers of all ages and machines types against each other for AMA National Championship honors. Classes are also divided into categories for machines with rubber tires and for tires using special screws for increased traction.
