Seven Daktronics screens to be installed at Indianapolis Motor Speedway

INDIANAPOLIS- Seven permanent large-screen video displays will be installed at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in time for use at the 1999 Indianapolis 500, Speedway President and CEO Tony George announced today.

Four Daktronics ProStarO "Video Plus" display screens and three ProStarO screens will provide spectators with high-quality video images of racing action around the 2.5-mile oval during the 83rd Indianapolis 500, May 30. The screens also will be used at the Speedway's other three racing events: the Brickyard 400 NASCAR Winston Cup race, the International Race of Champions race and the United States Grand Prix at Indianapolis, a Formula One race which debuts in 2000.

Each of the ProStarO "Video Plus" displays measure approximately 22 feet high by 29 feet wide, while the ProStarO displays each are approximately 19 feet high by 25 feet wide.

"We believe the addition of the large-screen video displays will please our fans and increase their enjoyment of events at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway," George said.

The purchase and installation of the seven permanent screens is the first phase of the video screen project for the renowned racing facility, George said. More large-screen video displays will be purchased and installed after completion of a new Master Control Tower, Formula One circuit and other construction in 2000.

Daktronics ProStarO technology allows the showing of live video and instant replays, commercials, race information, graphics and animation to fans in 16.7 million colors with outstanding brightness and clarity.

Daktronics, Inc., based in Brookings, S.D., is an internationally known designer and manufacturer of electronic scoring and timing systems, computer-programmable displays and electronic voting systems.
