NTB Trans-Am Qualifying Washed Out at Mid-Ohio; Grid by Points Puts Gentilozzi on Pole

13 June 1998

LEXINGTON, Ohio: Paul Gentilozzi will start his No. 3 AutoLink Chevrolet Corvette on the pole after continuing rain washed out both chances for Saturday qualifying at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, causing the lineup for the 45-lap, 101.25-mile NTB Trans-Am Series race to be determined by the Drivers' Championship point standings.

"This rule makes a lot of sense," said Gentilozzi. "Particularly since we have such a large field here, there would be too many cars that could disrupt the session."

Second in points to start on the outside pole is John Miller IV, in the No. 64 PLC Direct Camaro, followed by Chris Neville (No. 40 ARCO Camaro), Ross Thompson (No. 92 i-Dream Software Ford Mustang Cobra) and Bruce Qvale (No. 44 Huffaker/Qvale Motorsports Mustang Cobra).

Sunday's race will be broadcast with same-day, tape-delay coverage on TNN-The Nashville Network beginning at 2:00 p.m. EDT.
