NASCAR BGN: Goodyear Tire Notes and Quotes for Pikes Peak

8 June 1998

The Goodyear Eagle Radial tires being supplied for this weekend's inaugural NASCAR Busch Grand National Series LYCOS.COM 250 at Pikes Peak International Raceway are very similar to the tires used at Richmond, Gateway, Myrtle Beach and Indianapolis Raceway Park.

"This is the inaugural event for the NASCAR BGN series at Pikes Peak International Raceway," said Mark Keto, Goodyear NASCAR BGN engineer. "We have extensive experience with this tire set-up at such places as Richmond and Nazareth. We tested similar tire combinations on the BGN cars last season with Phil Parsons at St. Louis and Mike McLaughlin at Homestead. The tires performed very well at both tests.

"This year we made a slight adjustment to our short track compound that helps both performance and consistency," Keto continued. "We expect good, consistent performance from the tires on race day.

Keto further explained that knowledge gained from the NASCAR Winston West and the Indy Racing League events at Pikes Peak International as well as past experience on similar tracks were taken into consideration in making the recommendation for the LYCOS.COM 250 event.

ESTIMATED PIT STOPS FOR SUNDAY'S RACE: Stop approximately every 90 - 100 miles (estimate is based on fuel consumption).
