Buell Police Bike to Sweep Up after 1998 MBNA Superbike Events

R98016 February 23, 1998 For Immediate Release BUELL TO POLICE TRACK AT MBNA SUPERBIKE TOUR WESTERVILLE, Ohio -- Fans at 1998 MBNA Superbike Tour events may be startled to see a police bike pursuing racers around the track, but there's no cause for alarm. The bike is a law-enforcement prototype of the Buell S1 White Lightning, complete with red and blue strobe lights. Buell has presented the bike -- dubbed the Buell Sweep Bike -- as part of a promotional partnership with AMA Pro Racing. MBNA Superbike Tour Race Manager and former road-racer Ron Barrick will pilot the Buell Sweep Bike during track inspections. Also celebrity riders will board the Buell for special parade laps. Buell has also provided a limited edition, Molten Orange and Nuclear Blue S1W to be presented to the winner of the annual AMA Membership Sweepstake. The exotic S1W sweepstake bike can be seen at the AMA Pro Club tent at most 1998 MBNA Superbike Tour venues, were fans can register to win it. The 101-horsepower Buell White Lightning is powered by a Harley-Davidson 1,203cc V-Twin engine that has been modified to Buell specifications. The same bike is eligible for competition in the Pirelli Formula Xtreme and the Progressive Insurance Pro Thunder Series of the MBNA Superbike Tour. -30-
