Steve Park, DEI, Pennzoil #1 in 1998

5 December 1997

New York -- Dale Earnhardt Inc. announced Thursday rookie driver
Steve Park's bright yellow Pennzoil Monte Carlo will carry the #1 when
it takes to the track at Daytona in February.

Richard Jackson, owner of Precision Products Racing, and
representatives of DEI reached an agreement in New York Thursday to
swap car numbers for the 1998 season. Jackson's 1998 entries will wear
the #14.

"Our goal is to be number one and this is the first step," said Ty
Norris, director of motorsports of the newly-formed Winston Cup team
based in Mooresville, N.C. "There is a great deal of prestige that
accompanies the #1. Pennzoil is America's #1 selling motor oil and
DEI is striving to become the #1 racing team in the sport."

Norris said the agreement includes the car number swap only.
Jackson will retain all accumulated car owner points, plan benefits
and any provisional starting positions based on the #1's points from
the 1997 Winston Cup season.

"From where I sit it doesn't make a lot of difference what number
is on my car, but this is a neat deal for the race fans, DEI and the
people at Pennzoil," said Park, the 1997 Busch Grand National Rookie
of the Year. "This #1 along with our new paint scheme is going to make
the Pennzoil Monte Carlo the best looking car in racing next year."
