United Stockcar Alliance Returns!

18 September 1997

Tyrone, GA - Former United Speed Alliance Racing Director of Competition, Don Nerone, has announced that he will resurrect the United Stockcar Alliance, a travelling Late Model series that Nerone founded and operated from 1987 through 1993.

Nerone's announcement comes on the heels of the USAR announcing on Saturday that they will no longer sanction the Hooters Cup Late Model Series in 1998.

Nerone took the Florida based USA Series to Hooters Racing in 1995 and it became the Hooters Cup Series featuring the top Late Model drivers in the country. He served as its Director of Competition until his resignation in May of this year.

"Since the announcement by USAR that they will drop the Hooters Cup Late Model Series in 1998 to concentrate on their ProCup Series, I have received many phone calls from drivers and car owners asking me to consider bringing the old United Stockcar Alliance back," Nerone said. "I have some things in the works that can make it happen in 1998."

Nerone said he still has a good working relationship with many of the promoters that have hosted both USA and Hooters Cup events in the past, and that he believes there is still a desire that these promoters want a quality Late Model event for their speedways. Nerone said he hopes to announce a full schedule by February of 1998.

Nerone also said he will be looking at developing a Late Model Sportsman and Modified Division under the USA umbrella.

"USAR also dropped their Sportsman and Modified Divisions for 1998," Nerone said. "USA just might pick them up as well to support the Late Model Division."

Past USA Champions include Frank Johnson in 1987, Winston Cup regular Joe Nemechek in 1988, Eddie King in 1989 and 1991, Kevin Durden in 1990, and former Hooters Cup Champion Mario Gosselin in 1993.
