Repaved Myrtle Beach Track Has Problems

July 13, 1997

MYRTLE BEACH, SC -- The recently repaved Myrtle Beach Speedway has not faired well under the bright summer sun. The Busch cars were on the track only 10 minutes before the red flag was thrown for safety reasons.

The weight of the 3300lb Busch cars was more than the fresh pavement could handle and there are strips coming up at both ends of the track, right in the apex (mid-point) of the corners. There is also, or what appears to be, oil blotches where the surface has been ripped away by the powerful cars 10 minute run. Practice was then 'suspended'.
