Burton, Gordon and Trickle Crash in Saturday Practice at Michigan

15 June 1997

BROOKLYN, MI, -- There was a multi-car incident during Saturday morning Winston Cup practice session at the 2.0 mile Michigan Speedway.

Those involved in the incident were Jeff Burton, Jeff Gordon and Dick Trickle. Jeff Burton was transported to a local hospital for xrays that, according to crew chief Buddy Parrott, were negative.

Morgan Shepherd, who did not qualify his new ride, the #77 Jasper Engines Ford, will take the backup Exide Ford out during the afternoon 'happy hour' practice session. It is not known at this time if Burton will make the show in tomorrow's race or if Shepherd will take the wheel for the race.

All three drivers are forced into backup cars and will start in the rear of the field.

As a side note; Jerry Nadeau crashed hard in yesterday's first round qualifying for the Miller 400 destroying the #1 R&L Carriers Pontiac. Nadeau jumped in the backup and qualified 32nd on the field.
