PENNZOIL ANNOUNCES PURE MOTOR OIL TECHNOLOGY The Clear Truth About Pennzoil's New Pure Base Oil HOUSTON (April 21, 1997) . . . Pennzoil, the No. 1-selling motor oil in the U.S., has announced a significant technological advancement in its motor oils -- one that starts with a pure, clear base oil, which is the basic ingredient in motor oil. At the heart of the new base stock is a revolutionary refining process that destroys virtually all of the contaminants and harmful components in crude oil. "The purity of our new base oil is readily apparent in its crystal-clear appearance," said Pennzoil Products Company Chief Marketing Officer Thomas E. Floyd, "and the clear truth is that every drop of our multiviscosity motor oil will begin with our new pure base oil." Floyd said the new technology will not lead to an increase in cost, and that Pennzoil's distinctive yellow package and commitment to quality will remain the same. He went on to say that the general appearance of the motor oil itself will also remain the same, because Pennzoil's well-known Z-7 additive package lends a golden brown color to the finished product. "What is changing is the purity of the base oil used to make the motor oil," he emphasized. "Some of the additives in motor oils blended with conventional base oils are there to protect against contaminants in the base stock," Floyd noted. "Starting with a pure base stock enables the additives to do their primary job, which is engine protection." Products made from the new clear base oil are now in distribution, with total U.S. rollout to be completed in the next few months. "As the No. 1-selling motor oil, we are leading the charge in providing the motor oils of the future," said Floyd of the company's $250 million investment in motor oil technology.
