Craftsman Driver Norick and NHL's Trent Yawney to Visit Children's Hospital

NORICK AND YAWNEY TEAM UP FOR KIDS
NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Driver and St. Louis Blues Defenseman To Visit
Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital
CONCORD, NC - Lance Norick, driver of the National Hockey League sponsored
race truck in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, and Trent Yawney, defenseman
for the St. Louis Blues, will team up for a visit to Cardinal Glennon
Ghildren's Hospital on Thursday, May 22, 1997 at 1 p.m.
"I am really looking forward to visiting with the kids at Cardinal Glennon,"
said Norick. "One of the best things about our association with the NHL is
the opportunity to work with the team closest to our race and lend our
support to their activities with local charity organizations. When the Blues
asked us to help out with the kids at Cardinal Glennon, we jumped at the
chance. These kids are special and it is a privilege for me to have the
chance to spend a little time with them."
Norick and Yawney will sign autographs and visit with the children answering
their questions about NASCAR truck racing and NHL hockey.
In March, 1997, the NHL announced its sponsorship of Norick and the L & R
Motorsports #90 Ford NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Team. Primary sponsorship
of a race team by another major sport is unprecedented in the history of
motorsports.
"Unusual as it may seem," commented Norick, L & R Motorsports team co-owner.
"The NHL saw an opportunity to increase awareness of their sport on
television among fans who have a proven interest in fast-paced cutting-edge
competition.
"The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series schedule also includes markets that don't
currently have an NHL team," Norick continued. "So there is a huge
opportunity to attract new fans to the rink during racing's winter
off-season.
"Fan response to the NHL truck has been tremendous," Norick concluded. "Every
race more and more fans are telling us how excited they are about the NHL's
involvement with the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. Many have told us that
because of the NHL involvement in NASCAR, they are now watching hockey on
television. It's great to hear they have chosen a favorite hockey team to
cheer for when they aren't watching their favorite NASCAR team."
The NHL/L & R Motorsports NASCAR Craftsman race truck will compete in the
Western Auto Parts America 200 at I-70 Speedway in Odessa, Missouri scheduled
for May 23-24, 1997. In honor of the visit to Missouri, the truck will
display the St. Louis Blues logo throughout the weekend of fast-paced,
on-the-edge truck racing action.
Qualifying is set for 5:30 p.m. CDT on Friday, May 23 with the race scheduled
to get the green flag at 3:00 p.m. CDT on Saturday, May 24. The race will be
televised live by TNN and flag-to-flag coverage can be heard on the NASCAR
Truck Network.
