NASCAR Fines Buddy Parrott

14 May 1997

DAYTONA BEACH, FL - Buddy Parrott, crew chief for the #99 Exide Batteries Ford driven by Jeff Burton, has been fined $20,000 by NASCAR. The sanctioning body discovered improperly mounted roof flaps on the team's Thunderbird during pre-practice inspection for Saturday's Winston 500 at Talladega Superspeedway.

The sanctioning body cited the section of the 1997 NASCAR Winston Cup Rule Book which prohibits the use of safety items which have been altered.

Burton was forced to go to a back-up car for the event and start at the rear of the 43-car field. He finished eighth running on the lead lap. Lori Vizza -- The Auto Channel
