Hino Motors to Establish Truck Plant in Philippines

01/06/97

Nikkei English News reports that Hino Motors Ltd. has plans to establish a commercial vehicle production base in the Philippines by the end of 1997. Company officials said the new factory would make 1,000 large trucks and busses annually, and that it will be the Philippines' largest commercial vehicle production facility. Hino's Philippine joint venture, Pilipinas Hino Inc., will operate the new assembly plant.

Hino officials say demand for commercial vehicles in the Philippines has grown from 1,400 vehicles a year in 1993 to 2,000 units a year. Hino is considering using the Philippine factory as an export base to reach other Asian markets.
