Automakers Move to Calm Airbag Fears

12/18/96

Several U.S. auto manufacturers, including Volvo, General Motors, and Chrysler, are starting marketing campaigns intended to defuse public fears about airbag safety. The campaigns will include television and radio advertisements as well as educational programs teaching kids about the proper ways to use airbags.

In addition, GM and Chrysler have donated a total of $4.4 million to the national Airbag Safety Campaign, a coalition formed to spread safety information about airbags to the general public.
