Mitsubishi Announces Consumer Digest Best Buy Award for Mirages
12/11/96
Mitsubishi Motors' Mirage Coupe and Sedan Awarded 1997 Automotive `Best Buy' Distinction by Consumers Digest Magazine CYPRESS, Calif., Dec. 9 -- Mitsubishi Motors' all-new 1997 Mirage has been named a "Best Buy" by Consumers Digest magazine. The 1997 Mirage Coupe and Sedan were honored as Best Buy winners in the national magazine's 1997 automotive Best Buy ratings. Consumers Digest has positioned the Mirage in the small car class, which has a wide array of offerings from U.S., Japanese and Korean manufacturers. In the small car class, Consumers Digest editors reviewed 24 competitors before qualifying the Mirage as a Best Buy. The vehicles were evaluated for styling, ride and handling, acceleration, braking, steering and value-for-the- dollar. With its combination of sporty styling, generous interior room and good performance, as well as its $10,400 base price for the coupe, Mirage was determined by Consumers Digest to have excelled in its class. "Consumers Digest is well respected in the automotive industry and many consumers look to this publication before making a decision on the vehicle they want to buy or lease," said Kevin Ormes, group vice president of sales and marketing at Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America, Inc. "Winning this Best Buy Award confirms our belief that Mirage offers exceptional style, superb reliability, and terrific value for the money." Ormes noted that "the Mirage, being Mitsubishi Motors' entry-level vehicle in the U.S., symbolizes the company's character for building cars that are both spirited and practical." He added that "while Mitsubishi Motors has positioned the Mirage mainly against the Honda Civic, Nissan Sentra and the Toyota Corolla, the Mirage offers better value for the money." Consumers Digest editors enjoyed the Mirage's refinement and noted its excellent value-for-the-money when they were considering the Best Buy award. These areas were targeted when the 1997 Mirage was under development. In fact, Mitsubishi Motors' engineers, planners and marketing professionals listened carefully to customers during the research development phase of the 1997 Mirage and concluded the refinement and value-for-the-money were important areas Mitsubishi Motors could successfully focus on to improve customer satisfaction. Improvements in low-end engine torque, manual and automatic transmission smoothness and suspension performance make Mirage one of the most refined vehicles in its segment. At the same time, the Mirage's well-controlled suspension, quiet roomy interior and quality workmanship make the car very easy to live with. The end result is a very competent car that satisfies the desires expressed by consumers in this competitive segment. Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America, Inc., was established in 1982 by Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, Tokyo, and markets a full line of subcompacts, mid-size sedans, sports coupes, grand touring sports cars, luxury performance sedans and sport utility vehicles.
