Mitsubishi Increases Direct Injection Engine Production

12/11/96

Nikkei English News reports that Mitsubishi has increased its annual production goals for its new gasoline direct injection (GDI) engine, once again. The engine is being installed in Mitsubishi's Galant sedans and Legnum wagons. The company introduced the GDI engine in late August. The motor improves fuel efficiency substantially, while also providing more power.

The company initially planned to make 18,000 GDI engines by next March. It bumped this forecast up to 26,000 on the strength of orders received in October. Increasing demand has led Mitsubishi to up the forecast once more: it now predicts the production of 33,200 of the powerplants by March.
