Takata Announces Big Seatbelt Contract with GM

Takata Inc. Receives Record Seatbelt System Contract from General Motors Corp. AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Dec. 9 -- Takata Inc., a leading North American supplier of integrated seatbelt and airbag technology, was recently awarded its largest contract to date from General Motors Corporation . The multi-year, global seatbelt system program covers several GM models. The announcement was made today by J. Daniel Hess, Takata Inc.'s President and Chief Operating Officer. Takata Inc.'s work will include the development and integration of advanced seatbelt systems into vehicle design, and continues through production and service-support requirements. The global contract includes eight GM vehicle platforms, with volumes from all regions of the world. Combined, the eight vehicle platforms will make Takata one of GM's largest suppliers of seatbelts, Hess said. "This contract illustrates GM's continued confidence in Takata's ability to meet the requirements of its aggressive global growth strategy," Hess said. "We are providing design-validated, world-class automotive-safety systems for GM car and truck platforms around the world from our plants in Europe, North America and the Far East."
