Saturn Announces Beginning of EV1 Leasing

12/09/96

Saturn Retailers Begin Leasing GM's First Electric Vehicle

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 5 -- The first General Motors EV1
electric vehicles are being delivered to consumers today (Thursday,
Dec. 5). The EV1 is available only through the 24 Saturn retailers
serving the greater Los Angeles, San Diego, Phoenix, and Tucson areas.

This also marks the launch day of EV1 advertising in the four market
areas. An area-specific ad campaign, which includes print, television
and billboard mediums, will build awareness and highlight the many
distinctive features and technological advances of the vehicle.

In addition, potential customers can "surf the net" on the Saturn web
site at http://www.saturncars.com or the dedicated EV1 web site at
http://www.gmev.com to access information on the electric car.

"Today represents the culmination of GM's collective efforts to
successfully bring the first modern electric vehicle to market," said
Joe Kennedy, Saturn's vice president of Sales, Service and Marketing.

Some Saturn retail facilities will celebrate this historic event with
ceremonial first-car deliveries. The first customers will complete the
final phase of the EV1 consultative leasing process before taking home
their EV1. The EV1 specialists have been working with these customers
over the past few weeks to prepare them for this final step.

These customers were among the first approximately 300 people who
expressed a serious interest in leaving EV1. Retailers have been
collecting names of prospective customers since GM's initial marketing
announcement in January 1996.

"Our retailers are ready to provide the same high level of customer
service and satisfaction which have become Saturn's trademark in the
automotive industry," said Don Young, Saturn's West Regional manager
for Sales, Service and Marketing.

"We are confident the right systems are in place to successfully
market the EV1," Young added.

Saturn has received more than 3,000 inquiries regarding the vehicle
since the date of sale announcement in January 1996. Inquiries were
tracked through the 1-800-25-ELECTRIC phone number. This number will
continue to track future customer inquiries.

Last month, General Motors celebrated the ceremonial
first-car drive-off and shipment of EV1s from the Lansing Craft Centre
manufacturing facility in Michigan.
