Toyota Announces Strong November Sales

TORRANCE, Calif., Dec. 3 -- Toyota Motor Sales, USA
(TMS), Inc., today announced total November sales of 99,241 units, an
increase of 19.6 percent over the same period last year. On a
year-to-date basis, sales of 1,077,671 vehicles are 8.7 percent ahead
of last year.

"Consumer confidence and spending have proven surprisingly resilient
in the fourth quarter, driving industry sales far beyond
expectations," said Yale Gieszl, TMS executive vice president. "This
week, we will surpass last year's total sales which were the second
best in our history. We expect a strong year-end close and reports of
numerous all-time sales records throughout the industry."

Leading Toyota Division sales was the all-new Camry which recorded its
best-ever November of 31,644 units, 31.1 percent ahead of last year.
November was the tenth consecutive month Camry sales have exceeded
those of the previous year. Also posting its best-ever November was
Avalon, up 11.1 percent with 5,985 units.

4Runner also recorded its best-ever November with sales of 9,040, an
increase of 35.3 percent. Continuing to exceed sales projections, the
RAV4 mini-SUV sold 5,321 units. Total SUV sales of 16,268 were up over
100 percent.

The Tacoma compact truck posted sales of 11,964, up 11.3
percent. Ahead of last year by 12.7 percent, the T100 full-size truck
recorded sales of 3,193.  Combined pickup truck sales of 15,157 units
represent an increase of 11.5 percent.

Lexus Division saw an increase of 23.6 percent to post a best-ever
November of 8,157 units. The all-new ES 300 with 4,990 units, was up
28.8 percent. Also continuing to prove popular in its first full year
is the LX 450 full-size SUV with 725 units.

North American-produced (NAP) vehicles comprised 60.9 percent of
November's sales, up 20 percent over last year. On a year-to-date
basis, NAP vehicles represented 60.4 percent of 1996's sales, up 17.1
percent over 1995.
