VW Plans Upscale Model for 1999, Despite Lopez Hassle

As you read here, GM's espionage lawsuit against VW and the resignation of exec Inaki Lopez have resulted in a tremendous public relations headache for VW corporate. They intend to persevere, however, and continue with plans to build a new expensive model positioned above the Passat for late 1999. They expect the new car, powered by an Audi V6, to compete with BMW 5 series. It'll carry a price tag of about $36,200
