Car Manufacturers Hurrying to Build New Factories

12/04/96

Four new auto plants are under construction in Brazil, and that area seems to be the automotive hot spot of the world. RENAULT is building in Sao Jose dos Pinhais, where it plans to crank out 120,000 Megane compacts; HONDA is building in Sao Paulo, where it will make Civics; and Mercedes-Benz is building in Juis de Fora, where it'll manufacture A class cars.

Also considering new facilities are Chrysler (for Neons), Toyota (for an all new car), and Skoda--a subsidiary of VW.
