Mitsui to Sell GM Minivans

12/03/96

Comline has reported that Mitsui & Co. recently announced that it will market two new 1997 models in Japan, based on General Motors' popular Chevrolet Astro minivan. The two new models will be called Starcraft and Tiara, and both will come in standard, low-roof, and high-roof designs. The company will offer the standard and low-roof models at identical prices, but it will charge approximately 2% more for the High-roof models.

Mitsui & Co. is pursuing a larger share of Japan's "recreational vehicle" market by targeting ordinary users with low monthly payments and other strategies. The company hopes to sell 3,000 of the minivans per year.
