NHTSA Reports that Air Bags Reduce Driver Fatalities by 11 Percent
11/29/96
The U.S. Department of Transportation reports that their research reveals that air bags saved 1,136 lives from 1986 to 1995. These statistics will climb as more and more new vehicles will come equipped with air bags. Passenger side air bags have a similar effectiveness ratio, but increase the risk of fatality for child passengers from infants to about age 12.
