11/26/96
Consumers Guide Names Mazda Miata A `Best Buy' Popular Roadster Offers Highest Fun-Per-Dollar IRVINE, Calif., Nov. 22 -- The automotive editors of "Consumers Digest," a leading consumer publication, have named the ever- popular Mazda MX-5 Miata roadster one of their 1997 "Best Buys." The award is featured in the Nov./Dec. issue of the magazine. The editors of the magazine were impressed by the Miata's exceptional value, especially when compared to newer competitors costing much more. They noted, "The least expensive alternative to the Miata is still several thousand dollars higher and the rest are nearly twice the price. Yet none is more fun to drive. For most owners, the word Miata simply means smile." While the Miata has won numerous awards since its introduction, this marks the first time it has been honored by "Consumers Digest" in the magazine's annual awards issue. For 1997, Mazda has added a new option package to the Miata. This new Touring Package includes desirable features such as power steering, leather- wrapped steering wheel, alloy wheels, power mirrors, power windows and door map pockets at an affordable price. To date, Mazda has sold nearly 200,000 Miatas in the United States and almost 400,000 worldwide, making it the world's best-selling two-seat roadster.
