How Many Major U.S. Auto Races Are 56 Years Old? Turkey Night is!

11/25/96

The 56th running of the classic race for USAC midgets--The Turkey Night Grand Prix--is changing venues. Run so many years at Legion Ascot, Ascot Park, Bakersfield, California, this year's race will be held at the new Perris Auto Speedway, half-mile dirt track in Perris, California.

The place will be packed, this is a tradition. Fans will arrive early and BBQ their turkeys in tailgate parties in the Perris parking lot. Being early, they will be treated to a gathering of vintage and veteran dirt track cars assembled in the display area just inside the main gate. The uninitated, non-die hard dirt track racing fan may blanche at the idea of spending a hallowed holiday at a dirt track in the boonies, but let me tell ya . . . youve' got to be there to believe it, and once you go, you'll keep coming back. It sure beats vegetating on the couch watching Moloney on CBS-TV.
