Volkswagen's October Sales Best in Six Years


AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Nov. 5 --
Volkswagen of America, Inc. reported its best October sales in six
years.

For the month of October 1996, Volkswagen recorded U.S. sales of
10,030, representing a 40.3 percent increase over the same period last
year when sales were 7,147.

This marks Volkswagen's best October total since 1990.

For the year, Volkswagen is also well ahead of last year's pace.
October's sales bring Volkswagen's 1996 year-to-date total to 116,978,
up 16.9 percent over last year's mark of 100,095.

October's sales were again led by Volkswagen's popular Jetta model
with sales of 6,267, representing a 30.6 percent increase over last
year's mark of 4,799.

Sales were up dramatically for Volkswagen's mid-size Passat sedan and
wagon this October with sales of 1,387 versus last year's total of
677, a 104.9 percent increase.
