GM Settles Door-Latch Claims for $67 Million Plus

11/05/96

Reuters has reported that an Alabama judge said late last week that General Motors agreed to pay over $67 million to settle 55 different lawsuits that claim door latches installed in 40 million GM cars and trucks were defective and caused fatalities and injuries.

The settlement information was disclosed when District Judge Ted Bozeman in Alabama decided that it was not confidential. The ruling came as Judge Bozeman considered post-trial motions in a case that ended with a $150 million jury verdict against GM.
