Response to UAW Decision to Terminate 1993 National Agreement

DETROIT, Oct. 27 -- Following is a statement by Gerald
A. Knechtel, GM Vice President of Personnel, in response to the UAW's
decision to terminate the 1993 National Agreement:

General Motors has received written notification that the
International Union, UAW is terminating the GM-UAW National Agreement
effective 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, October 27.

We remain committed to entering into an agreement that balances the
needs of our employees and the UAW with the flexibility GM needs to
continue to improve our competitiveness.

We have had open and constructive dialogue with the UAW since the
talks began and we're hopeful we can focus with the UAW on concluding
these negotiations as soon as possible.
