Nissan Plans to Make Sports Utility Vehicles in Tennessee
10/22/96
Nikkei English News has reported that Nissan Motor Co. plans to make headway in in the U.S. sports utility vehicle market by assembling a new sport ute model based on its 2,400-cc Datsun pick-up truck at its plant in Tennessee plant, starting in 1998.
Nissan will retool the Tennessee factory to make 50,000 of the new vehicles annually. Nissan says they will sell a low-end model for around 20,000 dollars, which is about 2,000-3,000 dollars less than the company's Terrano, a similar off-road vehicle exported from Japan.
