10/11/96
Ford Announced Vehicle Campaign DETROIT, Oct. 9 -- Ford Motor Company announced the following voluntary safety recalls today. -- Certain 1996-97-model year Ford Taurus, Mercury Sable, and Lincoln Continental cars and certain 1996 Ford Windstar vans are being recalled to inspect the transmissions. It is possible that the park mechanism may not prevent the vehicle from rolling even if the shift lever is placed in the "PARK" position. Customers are being reminded to always use the parking brake when leaving a vehicle unattended. There are approximately 4l9,180 vehicles involved in this action, of which 19,613 are located in Canada. -- Certain 1990-92-model year Ford Probe cars are being recalled because the motorized seat belt assemblies may wear out and become inoperative. The lap belt, however, is not affected. There are approximately 248,515 vehicles involved in this action of which 8,022 are located in Canada. -- Certain 1997 F-Super-Duty with Motorhome Basic Chassis are being recalled because the insulation on some battery cables may have been damaged during the supplier's assembly process. The battery cable could develop a short, which could potentially ignite surrounding components. There are approximately 5,950 chassis involved in this action of which 89 are located in Canada. -- Certain 1996-model year Ford Taurus SHO passenger cars are being recalled to replace fuel pressure regulators having diaphragms that potentially may rupture. If this were to occur, fuel leakage or engine damage could result. Fuel leakage in the presence of an ignition source could potentially result in a fire. Approximately 5,000 vehicles are involved in this action, of which 209 are located in Canada. -- Certain 1997 Ford F-150 trucks are being recalled to verify the proper installation of a brake pedal retainer clip installed on the service brake. This could result in a loss of braking without warning. Approximately 1,300 trucks are involved in this action, of which 73 are located in Canada. Owners of affected vehicles are being notified by Ford via first-class mail and requested to have their vehicles inspected and modified as appropriate, by dealers.
