Consumers Digest, Inc. Names Oldsmobile Aurora, Cutlass and Eighty Eight as 1997 'Best Buys' LANSING, Mich., Oct. 9 -- In a recent study conducted by Consumers Digest, Inc., Oldsmobile was named a "Best Buy" for three of its 1997 vehicles -- the Aurora, the all-new Cutlass, and the Eighty Eight. These awards add to a list of recent honors Oldsmobile has received this year, including a best-in-segment ranking from the J.D. Power and Associates Initial Quality Study(TM) and top ranking from Strategic Vision for "Total Dealership Quality." "This is a car that's not even in showrooms yet, and already it's proving that Oldsmobile is leading the competition in quality and value." The Eighty Eight, which receives the award for the seventh consecutive year, boasts one of the longest streaks ever for the nomination. The Aurora, which receives the award for the second time, is no stranger to value and quality honors. Since its introduction in 1994 as a 1995 model, the Aurora has received 30 awards, including: 1996 "Total Quality Award" from Strategic Vision and the "Design and Engineering Award" from Popular Mechanics. "We put a great deal of effort toward continuous improvement," said John Gatt, Oldsmobile brand manager for Aurora and Eighty Eight. "Awards like this prove that we're not only building world-class automobiles, but that we're getting better all the time." These awards come at a very exciting time for Oldsmobile, which brings three all-new vehicles to the market next year -- the 1997 Cutlass and Silhouette, and the 1998 Intrigue, which will hit showrooms next Fall. Oldsmobile, a division of General Motors , will celebrate its 100th birthday next year.
