Major Parts Maker to Move Production from Wisconsin to Mexico

10/11/96

Reuters has reported that Johnson Controls Inc, one of the nation's biggest parts makers, has announced plans to close its parts manufacturing plant in Milwaukee and move production to its other plants including one in Mexico. The closure will occur in about two years.

Johnson Controls said that 200 workers will be affected, including 160 employees who are members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, and 40 salaried workers. Johnson Controls opened the Wisconsin plant in 1959, and workers there make valves and other parts used in heating and air conditioning systems.

Johnson Controls said it based its decision to shift the work away from Wisconsin on it's need to be more efficient to remain competitive. Johnson Controls supplies heating and air conditioning systems, automotive seating, and automotive batteries to automakers.
