Chrysler Statement on Tentative Agreement with UAW
10/02/96
By Chrysler Chairman Robert J. Eaton On Chrysler And The UAW Reaching A Tentative Agreement AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Sept. 29 -- The following was released today by Chrysler Corporation : We are all very pleased that we have reached a tentative agreement with the UAW and the 66,126 employees they represent for this contract. This agreement represents a solid foundation from which -- together -- we can go about the business of growing Chrysler Corporation for the benefit of everyone in the Chrysler family. This agreement -- achieved in a very business-like manner -- allows Chrysler, in partnership with the UAW, to continue to build on those things that make Chrysler unique in the auto industry and one of the most successful car and truck companies in the world. A lot has been said and written about Steve Yokich's different approach to this year's negotiations. From my point of view, Steve is someone who understands our business, is passionate about protecting and bettering the lives of the people he represents, and wants the U.S. auto industry to remain the best and most competitive in the world.
