Revi Premiers Two-Wheel Recreational Electric Vehicle; Company Offers Test Rides at Weekend Rally ALPHARETTA, Ga., Sept. 18 -- It may not quite be the Jetsons' flying car, but the electric vehicle has arrived. Specifically, it's coming to Cocoa, Fla., this weekend. Recreational Electric Vehicles Int., LLC (REVI) will demonstrate its Revi two-wheel recreational electric vehicle at this weekend's SunDay Challenge Road Rally in Cocoa. The fifth annual road rally, promoting alternative energy vehicle technologies, takes place at the Florida Solar Energy Center Friday through Monday, September 20-23. Designed for recreation and commuter markets, the Revi is the first electric moped built in the United States, and the only electric vehicle which can be test-ridden by the public. The mopeds will be available for test rides throughout the rally in Cocoa. With an operating cost of less than two cents per mile, the scooter-sized vehicle offers an environmentally friendly and quiet alternative for short- distance commuting, says Walter Goodman, project manager for REVI. "The Revi is ideal for congested inner cities as well as vacation destinations which suffer from excessive traffic and parking problems," he explains. Revis are already in use as recreational rental vehicles at resort communities ranging from Santa Barbara, Calif., to Cape Hatteras, N.C. The Revi vehicle is powered by two 12-volt, 38Ah Genesis batteries from Hawker Energy Products Inc. Because of the batteries' unique ability to accept high charging currents, the Revi can recharge in less than 20 minutes. The moped can travel approximately 30 miles on one charge and can even be charged from household electrical outlets. The American-made sealed, long- life batteries need to be replaced only once every 15,000 miles. Recreational Electric Vehicles Int., LLC, designs and markets the Revi electric moped. The company, formed in 1994, is based in Alpharetta, Ga. Hawker Energy Products Inc., headquartered in Warrensburg, Mo., manufactures and markets the Genesis(R), Cyclon(R) Monobloc, and ODYSSEY(TM) sealed, pure-lead rechargeable battery product lines. The corporation is a division of the Hawker Battery Product Group.
