Nissan to Reconsider European Ordering System

09/19/96

Comline reports that Nissan Motor will reconsider its ordering system for cars produced locally in Europe. So far dealers in each country have had to determine the specifications for the models they wanted to order up to 4 months before production of the cars started. Nissan's new plan will allow certain changes in specifications, like door shape and whether air conditioning will be added, up to 2 weeks prior to order. The company claims their new system will rival the intricate product-supply system that European manufacturers use, by employing an ordering system that conforms to market trends. The company says it will be able to reduce inventory and rebuild its lagging European operations. In 1995, Nissan's European operations dropped to 65.0 billion yen in the red.

The new system will first debut in sales companies in England and Germany, and is scheduled to be in place throughout European region by the end of next year. Vehicles available through the system will be passenger cars and recreational vehicles produced in England and Spain.
