Rockwell Explains Indicates Everyday Uses for Global Positioning Systems

Rockwell Provides GPS Solutions for Everyday Applications; Invites
Media Inquiries

SEAL BEACH, Calif., Sept. 11 -- If you need to get there,
Rockwell can probably help you find the way.

Whether you're driving a car, flying a plane, plowing a field,
operating a big rig, hiking through the wilderness or fishing, Global
Positioning System technology pioneered by Rockwell tells you where
you are and how to get to your destination.

The Global Positioning System (GPS) enables users anywhere in the
world to determine their location precisely by using receivers to
interpret signals from an array of Rockwell-built satellites.

Rockwell first became involved with GPS in 1974, when it won a
contract to build satellites and receivers for the
U.S. government. Today, Rockwell, a leader in the GPS market with more
than $2.5 billion in GPS-related sales over two decades, is providing
advanced navigation systems, including GPS, for pilots, soldiers,
truck and car drivers, hikers, and fishermen. In April, Rockwell was
selected by the U.S. Air Force to design, develop and produce the next
generation of Navstar Global Positioning System (GPS) satellites.

Examples of Rockwell GPS applications:

-- Hertz, the world's largest rental car company, is installing
Rockwell-built satellite navigation systems in 7,500 vehicles
operating in major U.S. cities. The system provides easy-to-follow,
turn-by-turn, directions to virtually any address within a defined
geographic area.

-- Pilots are using GPS technology from Rockwell's Collins Avionics
businesses to make navigation simpler than ever.

-- U.S. farmers are using Rockwell's GPS technology for crop
management, reporting and analysis for precision farming. The Rockwell
system marries the highly accurate, precision location technology of
GPS with the recordkeeping and database management of sophisticated
geoprocessing software, allowing farmers to manage their fields as
never before.

-- For trucking companies, Rockwell provides real-time, two-way
information exchange and precise vehicle positioning between driver
and dispatcher.

-- Rockwell also builds the "brains" behind many of the GPS products
used by hikers or fishermen. Rockwell designs commercial GPS
"chipsets," as small a business card, that are incorporated by leading
manufacturers for applications including personal computers,
automotive, marine, military, general aviation and surveying.

Rockwell employs many of the world's foremost experts on GPS and its
down- to-earth applications, and invites media inquiries on GPS
markets or technology. Rockwell also has numerous photos of satellites
or receivers available.
