Honda Starts US V6 Engine Production

09/13/96

Comline has reported that Honda Of America Manufacturing, located in Ohio, began producing 3,000 cc V6 engines on September 10. Honda will use the engines in the special U.S. model Acura 3.0, also to be produced by HAM. The engines will also power a new minivan to be produced in Canada starting in 1998.

With the new engines in mind, Honda has invested $200 million in aluminum casting, machining, and assembly lines in the U.S. since 1995. At present, HAM will make 100 of the engines per day, although that number will double to 200 engines a day by 1998. Honda will buy more than 200 engine parts from 55 U.S. companies.
