Toyota, GM to end product exchanges in Australia

09/10/96

Nikkei English News has reported that Toyota Motor Corporation will pull out of product exchanges with General Motors, in Australia. Last April Toyota stopped shipping its Corolla model to GM in Australia. The company will terminate Camry shipments at the end of April. For its part, GM will stop supplying Commodore cars to Toyota.

Toyota and GM established the joint Australian venture in 1988, but liquidated it last March. The Australian government recently eased its protection of domestic carmakers and cut customs duties on fully assembled imported vehicles.
