Nissan Motor to Cut European Delivery Times

09/09/96

Nikkei English News has reported that Nissan Motor Co. plans to alter the transport route it uses for cars produced in Europe. The company claims it can substantially shorten the time it takes to deliver cars from factories to various countries, if it uses a combination of rail and truck transport rather than sea transport.

Currently, Nissan Europe N.V. in Holland transports cars produced in the U.K at Nissan Motor Manufacturing Ltd. to Spain by sending them around the Iberian peninsula in a ship. The cars go to Nissan Distribution Service Barcelona S.A. and are then distributed to dealerships in Spain.

Under Nissan's new plan, the cars will be unloaded at one of Spain's northern ports and brought to Barcelona by rail, shortening delivery time by up to one week. The plan also includes more efficient transport of cars made at Nissan Vehiculos Industrial S.A. in Barcelona.
